Boarding all rows

May 19th, 2009

Staring out the window at the world sliding by,
Wondering how you got here, silent as you fly.
Things just happened to you, random people met
Moments with great impact, lives forever set.
Is it happy?  Is it sad?  Either way…
Life rolls forward before you even have a chance to say
‘ i love you ‘
But it’s true, irrefutable, unbending, never denying the fact
Never quite as obvious in the everyday act.
Bodies wound together, warm under the sheets,
Worn from their night together, the thrum of hearts beat.
Regardless of the effort lost in each others’ eyes,
You move on together, bound forever, in truth, in honor, in love.

Boarding all rows to the rest of your life.

And so it begins…

The last week I’ve been feeling like zombies have eaten my brain, either because I’ve had the constant thought of, “omg I’ve forgotten _____!!” or “Damnit, I still need to finish ____!” At this point, with my lack of organizational skills and my intense need to just do, I’m sure I’m overlooking a ton. However, overall, things this weekend have progressed well, but not without fault.

Wedding Program Prototype

Wedding Program Prototype

Saturday was a whirlwind - hair appointment, bridal shower, and engagement photos with Justin & Mary (who are, by the by, absolutely fantastic, and super fun)… with a Star Trek cherry on top.   We had made plans (well, I had organized it - fail #1) to see Star Trek with our group of friends at a swank “Cinema de Luxe”, where one can reserve seats and bring a martini into the theatre with you, about 40 minutes away.  Well, with everything going on, and the thunderstorm that followed, I didn’t get us there in time to start the film.  Everyone was kind enough to forgive me, though I still feel crappy-McCrapperson about it.  We went to the show 30 minutes later, not in the haute theatre, but it was still nice.  I’m glad the movie was good, because that brought the mood up a bit.

Sunday was intended to be “crank out Wedding stuff day”.  I’ve been working on and off on the wedding programs for the last week, and finally had gotten them all printed out (with some ink running out at times, and last minute runs to Best Buy for more - which Danny ended up doing today).  Today’s task was to slice them all up and assemble them.  75 programs, 3 pages each, plus cover sheet.  Our uber-slicer may not have survived the experience.  I think it can still cut through some toilet paper.   However, the programs are sliced and hand-collated: ready to be assembled when we arrive in Florida.  Danny got tasked with figuring out our seating (amazingly a lot more complicated than imagined), and blew through that quite effectively; all the while updating and correcting our RSVP list.  Now we have an accurate guest list and a seating chart! Yay!  However, all of this mayhem made us completely oblivious to the fact that we had made plans with our friends Gene and Ashley to visit tonight with Mollie (fail #2).  A gentle nudge from them, an hour after we had planned to hang out, brought us to our senses, but an hour too late to actually do anything good about it.  Wedding planning makes me a bad friend.  *sigh*

I had also charged myself with this little project for the bridesmaids… not that I usually get a crafty hair up my butt, but this time I did and I wanted to make something lovely for the ladies (here’s a hint).   I had made the components a week ago, but I had to assemble them, and I think tonight was my last opportunity.  So I stitched together the last 4 (my prototype turned out so well that it’s a keeper!). I have pictures, but I also want to keep it a bit of a surprise.

It’s now nearly 2am and I’ve somehow felt compelled to put all of this up on the blog.

I think I’m going a bit nuts.  Hopefully my brain will survive the week.

T-minus 6 days.

What’s up, “Girlfriend”!

May 6th, 2009

What a wild ride and we still have 11 days to go!

Things are coming together quickly. A last minute Bridal Shower has been put together for me by my wonderful friend Jillian here in Massachusetts for this weekend. Tamara & Robyn at TCEventDesign have been working non-stop with getting everything together, and I’ve had my head stuck in Adobe’s world getting all of the stationary for the wedding designed. Menus are complete, but the big project: the Programs, are still in progress. I’ve been held up by being so booked up with random stuff to deal with that we hadn’t worked out our ceremony until yesterday (thank you Dan, officiant extraordinaire!). Now that it’s 90% there, I can just drop in our order of service and voila!

I was silly and took on a lot of DIY projects for this wedding. It will certainly have our personal touch, but it’s very overwhelming. However, I can’t even begin to express how excited I am and how wonderfully everything is turning out. 11 days!

Updated today: We have a new Wedding Party page with pics of our dearest friends and family who are supporting us on our special day. I’ve also updated some of the times for events for the weekend. I’ll get a more solid timeline up as we finalize things with Tamara & Robyn.

Random weird bit: I dropped off my engagement ring to be polished this afternoon, so now I’m actually ringless… EEP! Danny’s been calling me “Girlfriend” all day. I feel… nekkid.

See everyone soon! <3

Hotels have been secured!

March 18th, 2009

Mention that you’re with the Pereira-Mandel wedding, and you can get our special group rate at either the Mayfair Hotel & Spa or the Mutiny Hotel. Don’t delay, because these rates only last until April 18th, or if the hotel reaches 80% capacity. We were just informed that the Mutiny is already near 80% capacity, so booking fast would guarantee that you get our rate. Be sure to mention that you’re with the Pereira-Mandel wedding when booking.

Here’re the details:

Mayfair Hotel & Spa
$149 for a King 1 Bedroom Suite
$179 for a Double Queen Suite
This is the hotel in which Irena and Danny as well as a majority of the wedding party will be staying so it’s the base of operations for the wedding. This is a beautiful, and very unique hotel that offers a Japanese Soaking Tub or a Hot Tub in every room!

3000 Florida Avenue
Coconut Grove, FL 33133
(305) 441-0000

The Mutiny Hotel
$139 for a King 1 Bedroom Suite
$159 for a Double Queen 1 Bedroom Suite
$239 for a 2 Bedroom King/Queen Suite.
These are slightly lower prices than the Mayfair (above) and they also include a couch with a pullout bed so they can conceivably sleep a couple more people per room.

2951 South Bayshore Drive
Miami, Florida 33133 USA

We can’t wait to see all of you!

Invitations are in the works

March 8th, 2009

It’s been an interesting process getting our invitations together. I decided (some might say foolishly) to design them myself, and where I thought this would save us some time and money, it’s turned into a giant behemoth of problems - mostly because I have no idea how to design for print.

That said, I’m very excited because they look super nice.

We’re pulling the trigger on Monday to get them printed, which should take about a week and a half, and then they’ll go out to everyone.

In the meantime, Danny and I are trying to block some rooms at a hotel to try and get everyone in the same hotel. If you wouldn’t mind RSVPing online (you can even do it now!) that might give us a better idea on how many rooms to block.

Only 70 days to go! Eep!

Welcome to our website!
